Queen Amidala's royal handmaidens are five very capable young women chosen to become bodyguards and confidantes to the Queen, because of their skills in combat, their intelligence, and their resemblance to the Queen herself.

Rabé prepares and assists Amidala with her elaborate hairstyles. She is also a very patient young woman, able to calm Amidala's nerves when she is upset.
Rabé is the only handmaiden other than Sabé with a line in The Phantom Menace. Rabé is played by Karol Cristina da Silva. |

Eirtaé comes from a wealthy family, and as a result, she is well versed in etiquette and protocol. She educates Amidala and the other handmaidens in these matters. Eirtaé is the only handmaiden who does not look like Amidala; she is easy to recognize because she has blonde hair.

Saché is one of Amidala's newest handmaidens (and one of the youngest). She remains behind on Naboo when Amidala leaves for Coruscant. Little else is known about Saché. She may or may not organized the resistance back on Naboo while Amidala was absent.

Yané is the youngest of Amidala's handmaidens. As a result, she is left behind with Saché when Amidala goes to Coruscant. She is supposedly a very intelligent young woman, but little else is known.
